Montoya Looks Ahead to Season Opener

Barber Pro Series and Skip Barber Three Day Racing School grad Juan Pablo Montoya remains sanguine about his prospects at the upcoming Formula 1 season opener despite uncertainty over his rival’s speed. Although his Williams-BMW team has put in thousands of miles in preseason testing, so too have their rivals. Yet often direct comparison of lap times among teams in preseason testing can prove circumspect. The truth will be told in one week at the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.

“I must admit, I didn’t really fancy racing at Melbourne for the first time last year, but once I got the hang of it, it was a pretty good place to compete. It is quite different from your average track as it is comprised of fast straights followed by slow corners,” opined Montoya“ As Melbourne is the first race of the season, there will be a big question mark over everyone’s speed even though I think we will be alright. We have done miles of testing recently, but despite this, I always want to do more before the first race.”

Montoya enters his second year in Formula 1. At last year’s Australian GP he retired with mechanical problems, something that would plague him through the first half of the season. The second half showed more of his true colors, coming on strong with a three poles and a win in the Italian Grand Prix.
