As the 2002 season draws to a close, Team Sauber Petronas began the first day test of three days running at the Valencia circuit. Nick Heidfeld who finished 10th in the FIA official World Championship Classification for drivers in 2002 with 7 points, will be driving the C21 during the days of testing and set the fifth fastest time of 1.14.790 during the course of 49 laps.

He will continue driving tomorrow and Thursday prior to switching to Jerez in the first week of December, (December 3-4 with Nick Heidfeld, December 5 with Heinz-Harald Frentzen) and then to Barcelona in the second week (Dec 11-13 - for both drivers).

Jacky Eeckelaert (Head of Vehicle Engineering):

"The purpose today was to conduct detailed gear-box test to gather data for the forthcoming Sauber Petronas C22 which will be unveiled on February 9, next year. We had a successful day and were able to finish running an hour early having completed our gear-box program".

Nick Heidfeld:

"I have enjoyed my break since Suzuka, but it felt great to be back in a racing car again. Valencia is an interesting track to drive on. We had a productive day. "
