Despite announcing in October 2001 that they were ending their seven year partnership, Sauber Petronas have announced that Red Bull will continue as sponsors in 2002.

Dietrich Mateschitz, the owner of the Austrian energy drink company, previously held a stake in the Hinwil based team but sold his interest to concentrate on a new deal with Arrows and also in the US with IRL team Cheever.

However, Red Bull will continue with Sauber although not as major sponsors.

"Following our most successful Formula One season, I am very happy to start into our eight year with Red Bull," team principal Peter Sauber said.

Recently Peter Sauber bought back Mateschitz' stake in the team and intended to sell the shares on to sponsor Credit Suisse to be placed with different investors.
