Sauber will switch its existing test programme next year in favour of the Friday of race weekends, along with Jordan, Jaguar, Renault and Minardi. Team principal Peter Sauber believes the Friday two hour private test session, permitted for those who chose that arrangement rather than year round testing, presents a better option for the team.

With two new circuits, China and Bahrain, joining the calendar next season, Sauber is looking to the future: "Two additional hours of testing will be a huge bonus at those circuits," he said. "That is one reason why we consider it an advantage."

With limited resources as a private team, Sauber has mostly only tested one car at a time and is not satisfied with progress. "In addition," Sauber continued, "not all of the testing we have done over this year has produced the results we expected to get."

"And we are also building a new wind tunnel which allows full scale running so we will then have the opportunity to do some of the track testing that we currently do in the tunnel itself."

Sauber decided to make the decision about testing for next year now in order to give time for restructuring the team: "If we do not test as we do now then we don't need a test team, so we can make structural changes and by announcing now we have time to do it." He explained.
