Team Sauber Petronas began a three-day test at Silverstone in Northamptonshire today in preparation for the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona on April 28, and also for the British Grand Prix which will be held here on July 7. Nick Heidfeld covered 52 laps and set the third fastest time of 1m 22.990s. Meanwhile, Felipe Massa, who will take over from Nick on Thursday, was running at Vairano and will continue there tomorrow, conducting aerodynamic tests.

Remi Decorzent (Race engineer) Silverstone:

"This is another very important test for us giving Team Sauber Petronas an opportunity to continue development on aerodynamic set ups, which we will be using in Barcelona next weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix and test new mechanical parts. At the same time tomorrow, we also have an intensive programme of Bridgestone tyre development and evaluation to work through. "

Gianpaolo Dall'Ara (Head of Test Team) Vairano:

"Before joining the test team at Silverstone on the last day of the UK tests on Thursday, we are working here in Italy on the aerodynamics and validating data from the Swiss-based wind tunnel. Too bad that the weather is very wet."

Nick Heidfeld:

"It's good to be back on a circuit after the last Grand Prix. We have a lot of work with Team Sauber Petronas to implement all the data gathered during this test."
