Team Sauber Petronas continued testing at Mugello today as Felipe Massa drove the Sauber Petronas C21 in preparation for the FUJI Japanese Grand Prix which concludes the 2002 FIA Formula One World Championship on October 13, 2002. Felipe Massa set a fastest time of 1m 23.775s today after covering 78 laps. Nick Heidfeld will finish the test tomorrow.

Giampaolo Dall'Ara (Head of Test Team):

"We were very pleased with the way that the C21 performed today. It ran like clockwork, which enabled us to do a lot of aerodynamic evaluation work and to complete a tyre programme with Bridgestone. This repaid our engineers who worked long into the night to come up with a significantly improved set-up for the car. Thanks to all the data we accrued, we believe that we will have a carthat is well suited to the Suzuka circuit next week."

Felipe Massa:

"I have to thank our engineers for the work they did last night. We had formulated a good direction for today during our test yesterday, and I am happy to say that the car went really well as a result of their efforts to improve that further. The car felt a lot better and I'm delighted to have set the best time the team has ever recorded here with a decent fuel-load in the car."
