S. Marino Grand Prix - Imola, 1st May 1999 QUALIFYING
Marc Gene Chassis 04 21st laps:12 best time: 1:30.035
"I am really happy. I was disappointed due to some problems experienced since yesterday, but today things proved much better. I pushed flat out right in the qualifying session where I needed to improve my time.I regret I didn't run many laps. In addition to this I know this circuit less than the other drivers. The mechanics sorted out the problems on my car and I thank them because they've done a great job. Actually my car's behaviour showed a remarkable improvement. I ran trouble free and with no errors. I therefore feel very motivated for tomorrow's race."
Luca Badoer Chassis 01 22nd laps: 12 best time: 1:30.945
"This morning after only six laps I was forced to go back to the garage due to a driveshaft concern. The long wheel-base car was optimized for the qualifying. Unfortunately I was forced to slow down while doing the last run due to the presence of another car before me, otherwise I could improve my time. I look forward to the race."
"We entrusted Luca Badoer with the development of the longwheel-base car. Unfortunately we didn't manage to optimize it as we expected to do. As for Marc Gene, he's getting more and more experienced and this is very positive for us. Generally speaking, the pole position for the race this year turned out to be four tenth worse, whereas our time improved of six tenth. We, therefore, made a big step forward in comparison with the others and this means we are taking the right direction in order to reduce the gap with the top Teams."
Roger Griffith (Ford Cosworth) Motorsport Project Leader:
"We had a few problems in this morning's session and we took the precaution of changing the engine in Luca's car for qualifying. However, the work done overnight showed an improvement in the engines' performance. Fresh engines will now be fitted for tomorrows' race and we look forward to a good result in the Team's home Grand Prix."
The T-car (chassis 03) for tomorrow's race is prepared for Marc Gene.
