Good Friday for BAR

BAR got off to a flying start in the opening free practice session for the San Marino Grand Prix today as Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve lined up fifth and eighth on the timesheets respectively.

Both BAR drivers were on the pace from the outset as the teams began their preparations for the first European grand prix of the season.

Olivier finished the day with only the Ferraris of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, the Williams of Ralf Schumacher and the McLaren of Mika Hakkinen ahead of him.

Both Olivier and JV were ahead of Honda-powered rivals Jordan, whose drivers Jarno Trulli and Heinz-Harald Frentzen lined up ninth and thirteenth.

Imola has been a happy hunting ground for BAR in the past. Jacques qualified fifth for the 1999 race while the French-Canadian finished in the same place in last year's event.
