Wiliams technical director Sam Michael reviews the British Grand Prix

"Although we clearly weren't as competitive as we would like to have been at the British Grand Prix, both drivers squeezed the most out of the cars during the race on Sunday. We had no reliability issues, both stops worked well, and the strategy was successful."

"We introduced new bodywork in Magny-Cours, which was quite a big step in the wind tunnel, but it obviously has some teething problems. As we didn't have the opportunity to track test it between Magny-Cours and Silverstone, we haven't been able to rectify the issues. We carried out extensive testing in the tunnel last week which identified some of the problems, but not all of them."

"With the current testing regulations and the desire to push as hard as you can to bring performance to the car, you are inevitably going to make some mistakes. We've brought over 100 aerodynamic upgrades to the car this year, this is just one that hasn't worked and we've had to pay the penalty."

"From here, we will go back to the factory and investigate how we can make improvements to the package and our performance, and the test at Jerez this week should shed some further light on the problem. We are a big company, a racing team. We've had these sorts of problems before and we will fix it."
