Ryan Reynolds-inspired Alpine F1 video wows fans ahead of Australian GP: "Masterpiece"

Ryan Reynolds invested in Alpine through his marketing firm, Maximum Effort Investments, in 2023.

The Alpine Formula 1 team has released a cinematic promotional video that recreates the hilarious Deadpool movie music video. The video comes ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and features the team's 2025 driver line-up, Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan.

This fun crossover with Marvel shows the marketing influence of Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds following his investment, and could be just what Alpine needs to cater to the new, younger audience the sport is currently seeing.

The Canadian actor, well-known for his role in Deadpool and his appearances in the likes of Green Lantern (sorry, Ryan), The Proposal, and Blade: Trinity, was part of a €200 million investment into Alpine through his marketing company, Maximum Effort Investments, in 2023. He, along with Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners, acquired a 24% stake in the French team.

Reynolds' recognisable marketing has brought a staggering amount of exposure to the Welsh football club, Wrexham, which he took over in partnership with fellow actor Rob McElhenney in 2021. The latest video from Alpine shows a hint of this strategy being introduced to the Enstone-based F1 team.

Since his investment in Alpine, the social media team has taken a more relaxed and less serious direction in marketing the Enstone outfit, connecting with a younger, more diverse audience through regular popular culture references and links to the much-loved Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Alpine's Deadpool-inspired promotional video

The video itself is genius, beginning with one of the drivers kneeling, surrounded by flames as the familiar sound of Celine Dion's Ashes begins to play. As the camera pans in, the driver stands as the words, "Alpine Formula One Team presents" display on the screen. After what can only be described as an old-school James Bond-style transition into the next shot, the team's newest driver, Jack Doohan, walks towards the camera as the caption adds, "A film that was written at 2 am in a panic."

Poking fun at Gasly and Doohan's matching shaved heads, which is getting much more fan and media attention than expected, the video continues, "two identical race cars, two identical haircuts."

There are several moments which mirror the style of the original Deadpool music video to Ashes, including Gasly falling from a building in slow motion and Doohan posing over a chair. It's safe to say that fans are loving this new approach.

One fan commented on the video urging the team to release the behind-the-scenes of the making of the video, whilst another fan branded it a "masterpiece."

Reynolds himself shared the video to his Instagram story with the caption, "Let's kick some ashes this year."
