The British Grand Prix was nothing if not eventful for Romain at the Silverstone circuit this afternoon, going from top ten, to last place and finally back to the sharp end with some stunning laps and brave manoeuvres along the way. Here, the Frenchman tells us how he saw the race…
Romain, can you be happy with what you achieved today?
Coming from right at the back to take sixth place after we had to change the front wing is good, but still not ideal in terms of the end result. Considering where we started on the grid today and what happened at the beginning of the race I think that we can be very pleased. We had incredible pace and a good strategy. I’m also pleased with the battles we had on track and the way were able to manage the tyres in a long race. I think that we had the pace to battle right at the front, but despite a solid qualifying performance our starting positions meant that it was going to be challenging to tackle the top three cars today.
How much did you enjoy driving the Silverstone circuit today?
The circuit is very impressive. It’s very demanding so you must concentrate and use all your physical energy throughout the race. When you’re travelling at over 300km/h you can’t afford to make any mistakes, not even the slightest, and you have to be careful not to drive on the little rubber marbles. Like every driver I had a two or three big moments during the race, but that’s part of the game.
You have again shown that you’re growing in self-confidence…
We aren’t far from a great performance but we are still to achieve the elusive top result. Hopefully we will remain on the path we’ve had so far which will lead to a good second half of the season.
