Ricciardo admits Red Bull car "a handful"

Daniel Ricciardo believes Red Bull will be a "lot closer" to the front on Saturday if it can sort the balance issues it suffered during Friday practice for the Chinese Grand Prix.

The Australian posted the fifth fastest time of the session in the afternoon, but was over a second behind pace-setter Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari.

Ricciardo admitted his car was a "handful" to drive, but is hopeful of progress once he can improve the balance.

"I assume most guys are struggling for balance, because we seem to be relatively competitive but the car was a bit of a handful today, so I assume it was like that for everyone," said Ricciardo.

"We saw quite a few guys spin this morning. I think the wind was having quite a big effect also."

He added: "The long run seemed more promising. I think at the end with the prime the pace was not too bad.

"I think looking at the laptimes we are fairly satisfied. I think probably more satisfied that we are pretty close, but I feel there's still a lot to come from the balance. If we find what I'm after I think we'll be a lot closer."

With a chance of rain hitting qualifying tomorrow, Ricciardo admitted he would welcome a wet session.

"I wouldn't say no. It should give us a bit more of a chance. If it comes ,we shouldn't be too bad. I'd say a top five would be a bit more predictable."
