Alan Permane, Jarno Trulli's race engineer, is optimistic for the future after Renault's good start to the season. Trulli has finished in the points for all of the three races so far, as has team mate Fernando Alonso, and Permane is pleased with the reliability and performance of the R23.

"The start of the season has obviously gone very well for us," he told the Renault website. "We knew we had a quick car but were a little worried about reliability, the R23 has shown that it is strong in both areas and we are confident for the rest of the season."

"The chassis is superb, it's very easy to set up and generally well balanced from the 1st run, we then can spend time playing with the aerodynamics and the mechanical setup to maximise grip and improve laptime."

Renault is currently second in the Constructors' championship behind McLaren, Alonso third in the Driver's and Trulli fourth. Permane thinks the atmosphere at Renault's UK base at Enstone is good and that there is more to come from the team.

"The atmosphere is very good here, we have several new performance parts coming for Imola and people are working hard to design and produce them," he said. "The feeling here is that we are competitive enough to finish 3rd in the championship and to win one or two races this year."
