Renault F1 Team test driver Allan McNish gives his thoughts on interpreting the results of the Canadian GP Saturday qualifying session and looked ahead to the race.

"The first thing to consider," explains Allan, "is that the weather has mixed things up since the start of the weekend. Even though we are expecting a dry race today, anything can happen. The good drivers will be able to take advantage of changing circuit conditions."

On the subject of Renault, did qualifying run according to the Team's expectations? "Absolutely," answers Allan. "The Michelin dry tyres are excellent. What's more, while Ferrari has only had a quarter of an hour's running on a dry circuit, the Heathrow Agreement allowed us over two hours of running in these conditions."

"We have analysed the tyres' behaviour over a long run, worked through different set-ups, fine-tuned the braking stability. We are the only team that is really making the most of the Heathrow Agreement, and it proved productive again this weekend."

So what about possible strategies for the race? "You will need to be fairly cautious on strategy," concludes Allan. "The key thing will be to judge the track conditions correctly before the start, and to adapt quickly. When it comes to that, Pat Symonds is a master. If it rains, we may have a little more difficulty but if it stays dry, we are already starting from points-scoring positions. And if we get a mixture of the two, well, anything can happen!"
