Renault became the fourth team to announce a 2003 launch date with the R23 due to be launched at Lucerne in Switzerland on January 20th. Renault will present the new livery and sponsorship package at a media event hosted in the Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre.

This year's chassis was the R202, following the previous Benetton coding system but the 2003 car will carry the more traditional Renault system of chassis numbering.

Following the media launch, the new car will be shown on track three days later at the Paul Ricard circuit in France with drivers Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso. This will be an 'unbranded' event due to French tobacco laws and the R23 will run without livery.

Trulli drove for Renault this year and Alonso was the team's official test driver in 2002. The Spaniard replaces Jenson Button who moves to BAR for 2003.
