Red flag in Monaco on lap 46

One wrong move on the street circuit in the Principality can shut down the racing action.

Pastor Maldonado,Tom Chilton and Jules Bianchi were involved in a crash that ended the race for the Williams driver on lap 46 of the FIA Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco. The crash happened when Marussia's Chilton was heading into Tabac and the two touched, sending Maldonado's Williams into the air.

Jules Bianchi was bearing down on both his Marussia teammate and the hapless Maldonado. As the two made contact, Maldonado ended up in the barriers in a dramatic fashion as his car became a hazard on the Circuit de Monaco.

With the track blockage of the Williams car, the red flag was displayed to allow time to remove Maldonado's car; plus the checking the barrier to ensure the safety of the track, along with the cleanup. Chilton was unable to continue due to the damage of his Marussia.

While the accident was horrifying, Maldonado was able to climb out of the cockpit of his Williams and walk away. Chilton also showed no signs of injury.

The race will be restarted momentarily.

Bianchi was able to continue when the race resumed on the streets of Monte-Carlo, but not long as he spun out of the race at Ste Devote.
