Ralf Schumacher will take part in this afternoon's First Free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix to decide whether or not he will participate in the weekend's action.

The BMW WilliamsF1 star injured his left leg two-weeks ago at the Monaco Grand Prix when hitting the Ste Devote barrier, and required stitches for a 7cm gash, which was 5cm deep, in the local hospital.

He has since undergone a rehabilitation programme in Cologne, Germany and is reasonably confident of competing for his team on Sunday, although he stresses he will not just race for the sake of it and that me must be 100% fit to do so.

"I will make a decision after I've tried out a few laps in the car. It feels okay at the moment but I haven't tested it yet. I haven't driven a car since the accident so I will have to find out in practice."

"I will not race for the sake of it as it wouldn't be the best for the team or myself. If I cannot brake left-footed then it is not worth it. I don't think the pressure will be the problem but it will be how the leg responds to the bumps of going around corners."

In the unlikely event that he cannot race, F3000 star and Williams' test driver Bruno Junqueira is on stand-by, ready to compete against Jenson Button in F1 race trim for the first time.
