Ralf Schumacher has been released from hospital after his heavy crash during testing at Monza yesterday. The Williams driver came off the track at the second Lesmo curve in the late afternoon and the car rolled several times before impacting with the tyre barrier.

Ralf was taken to the medical centre and then to hospital in Milan for precautionary checks. He escaped serious injury but was kept in hospital overnight for observation and is now on his way home for rest and recuperation. There is no indication that he will miss the Italian Grand Prix.

"He'll fly back to Salzburg now," said a spokesman for the German. "He's fine, some concussion but that's all. He has to rest until Monday, slow down and do nothing, lying in bed and then he can train again for next week's race."

Williams is investigating the crash and preliminary reports indicate that it was caused by a technical failure rather than driver error. Team test driver Marc Gen? will step into Ralf's place for the remainder of the Monza schedule with a new FW25 chassis.
