Ralf Schumacher is angry that the American hospital that treated him after his accident at Indianapolis did not notice the extent of his injuries. Schumacher was subjected to examinations then treated for bruising and back pain, and was released the following day. But this week doctors at the clinic where he is being treated in Bad Nauheim diagnosed two spinal fractures.

"I could not believe that they did not recognise the injuries in Indianapolis," Schumacher said, according to the Telegraph newspaper. "They did a lot of examinations but did not pick it up. I'm angry that they did not wait and put me on a plane the next day."

Schumacher has been advised to spend two or three months recovering, which could put him out of action until at least September. One of the doctors at Bad Nauheim said that fractures of the nature that Schumacher suffered are not uncommon and will heal well given enough rest.

Williams test driver Marc Gen? will replace Schumacher this weekend at the French Grand Prix. As it is unknown how long Schumacher's recovery will take, the team said it will make further driver decisions at a later date.
