Rain terrorizes start of Q3 - Magnussen crashes

Rain is falling at the Hungaroring.

There was rain reported at the start of Q3, but not enough to make teams want to switch to intermediates or full wet weather tires. Suddenly, a rooster tail appeared behind the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and chaos quickly ensued.

He went off in the first corner, and was soon followed by a number of cars. All were able to avoid an impact with the tire barrier, except for McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen. He started to slide, hit the grass, and then went flying into the barrier that awaited him at the outskirts of the runoff. The impact was vicious but he did exit the car under his own power.

Q3 was red flagged with nine minutes and 59 seconds remaining while they cleaned up the accident scene. After seven minutes, the session resumed.
