Kimi Raikkonen will start Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix from 11th on the grid, after failing to find a clear lap at the crucial time at the start of Q2.
The Ferrari star become trapped behind Marcus Ericsson's Sauber, and although Ericsson made it through, Raikkonen missed out on making the cut.
"Obviously we got it wrong and should have been out earlier," he rued.
"That's how it is.
"I've been pretty happy with the car, yesterday and this morning, and the laptime is thereabouts. I expected to be strong in qualifying, but this kind of thing is wasted.'
"It's part of the game, but it's disappointing. To be quite good speed-wise, then this happens."
