Raikkonen: I can still deliver for Ferrari

Kimi Raikkonen insists he is still the right man to deliver for Ferrari next year, despite ongoing uncertainty about his future with the Maranello team.

The Finn is waiting on a decision from his bosses on whether they will take up an option on his contract, or elect to take another driver to replace him in 2016.

And although Raikkonen has had a difficult campaign, having scored just 76 points compared to team-mate Sebastian Vettel's 135, he insists that the results do not do justice to his pace.

In the wake of comments this week from Ferrari technical director James Allison suggesting both drivers were evenly matched in terms of pace, Raikkonen said: "Everybody has their own view, but I wouldn't be here if I didn't think I had the speed.

"There is no point to be racing, if I didn't believe I have [the speed] – and I am sure I have.

"We have demonstrated that many times but the results, when you look at the points, it doesn't show."

Future still uncertain

Despite reports emerging in Italy suggesting Ferrari had decided not to keep Raikkonen next year, the former world champion said he had had no indication yet from the team about its plans for 2016.

"I don't know any more than I knew at the start of the year. For me, the whole thing hasn't changed for months. If I knew I would easily say, unfortunately I don't know.

"I said many times that I would like, will it happen? Who knows? Time will tell. Let's wait and see."

He added: "Somehow I end up every year in the same position – and it makes no difference if I have a contract or not. There is no contract, but there is an option now.

"I have made it very clear to the team what I would like to happen, and it is to be here next year. But I don't know any more than you guys.

"I don't read a lot of stuff but I can see a lot of stuff is written. Wherever it comes from, it doesn't come from here.

"I am sure I will be one of the first to know rather than read it in a newspaper. Time will tell, and I will try to do the same as before, and even after the decision, and we will go from there."
