Wehrlein lost control under braking for Turn 19, and spun into the gravel trap. Marshals made one attempt at pushing him out, but while they did so Wehrlein was arguing with his race engineer Josh Peckett.

Peckett became more frustrated with his driver, who ignored his repeated instructions to turn off the car's engine to avoid it overheating.

The exchange went like this…

Peckett: "Can you get going?"

Wehrlein: "Can they push me?"

Peckett: "OK, just turn the car off I think mate, sorry."

Wehrlein: "Wait another 10 seconds. I think they are coming."

Peckett: "OK, Pascal, we need to turn the car off, please, turn the car off… For temperature. Turn off please, turn off."

Wehrlein: "Yeah, one second they are coming."

Peckett: "They are not going to push you out Pascal, turn the car off please. We need to for temperature. Turn it off now."

Peckett: "OK, Pascal, car off. Car off, now!"

Peckett: "Car off, Pascal."

After the car was finally craned away, Manor tried to get his car going again after it returned to the pits on a low-loader, but he only had time for one timed lap before the end of the session.
