Fourth free practice today saw a continuation of the sunny, dry conditions, track temperature up to 22C. Much on track activity signaled the start of the session, everyone was out and about, Renault's Jenson Button taking an early lead. Most teams were on dry tyres but the Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello went out on intermediates to a not spectacular result. Sauber's Felipe Massa stalled at Aqua Minerale to end his practice.

Jordan still looked strong, as did BAR and Renault although David Coulthard's time from the earlier session stood as the one to beat at first. Not far into the practice Arrows' Heinz-Harald Frentzen took second fastest behind Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya and Jarno Trulli popped up into third. Kimi Raikkonen made fourth for McLaren, the times changing very rapidly as Michael Schumacher yet again went to the top, followed by McLaren's David Coulthard.

Jaguar did not live up to their earlier form, back down at the rear end of the grid with Minardi and Toyota -- but who knows what goes on in practice? Michael went into the gravel at Rivazza and Fisichella at Piratella, then Minardi's Alex Yoong spun but kept it going. Despite the amount of cars on track at any given time it was a fairly quiet session, the dry conditions giving plenty of lap time but no real indication of qualifying performance. Final top six classification: M. Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Heidfeld, R. Schumacher, Montoya.
