Williams confirmed on September 28th that Antonio Pizzonia will drive in the last two races of the season in Japan and China. Pizzonia has been deputizing for the injured Nick Heidfeld since Monza and although there was speculation that Williams may have tried second tester Nico Rosberg in the race seat, Pizzonia will stay put.

"I am delighted to be racing for another two races, especially after last weekend at my home race when I was the innocent victim of a start line accident," said the Brazilian. "The two tracks in Japan and China are real drivers' circuits and I hope to be able to validate this vote of confidence from the team."

Pizzonia picked up two points at Monza but didn't finish the last two races due to on-track incidents. However, the team has confidence in him for the remainder of the season. "On the strength of his races for the team thus far this season, we know he will serve us well in the next two Grands Prix," said Frank Williams.

This means, obviously, that Heidfeld will be absent for the rest of the season. The German missed Monza due to suffering headaches after a testing crash, then to add insult to injury he was knocked off his bicycle by a motorbike while out training and added a cracked shoulder and dislocated fingers to his woes.

Heidfeld will leave Williams at the end of this year to join the new BMW team for 2006 onwards. Pizzonia is on the short-list to replace him full time but Rosberg is also under consideration. "Frank (Williams) has got a couple of options for our second race seat and Nico is definitely one of the guys on that list," technical director Sam Michael said in Brazil.
