Following Peugeot's recent announcement that the company will withdraw from Formula One at the end of the year, its President has now stated they'll never complete in the sport again, owing to a disastrous stint with the Prost team.

Frederic Saint-Geours commented, "I want one thing to be made totally clear and that is that we are pulling out of Formula 1 for good. In life, one must never say never, but, if you want my opinion, it is that Peugeot will never again race in Formula 1. We have even stipulated in the contract with AMT that we will not do so for the next five years."

He added that even though major manufacturers are deciding this is the ideal time to enter the sport - Mercedes, Ford, Honda Fiat and Toyota all playing roles - it isn't the right thing for Peugeot and that they have other options that will favour them more commercially than Formula One.

"I maintain that even though we are in a period when many major manufacturers are deciding to enter Formula 1, we have the right to have a different opinion and to adopt different sporting and commercial strategies".

Peugeot is, however, successful within the World Rally Championship and has confirmed they will continue to compete in this area of motor sport.

Their stint in Formula One has been an unsuccessful one, despite supplying McLaren and Jordan in the past.
