Perez unimpressed by sponsor attempt to appease him after Trump row

Sergio Perez has said he will not change his mind about ending his relationship with sunglasses company Hawkers, despite its plans to set up a children's charity in the wake of their recent falling out.

The Force India driver originally terminated his deal with Hawkers after it made a joke about Mexicans using their products following Donald Trump's United States presidential election victory.

In reference to Trump's plans to build a wall between America and Mexico, it said on social media that people could buy its sunglasses to hide their 'crying eyes tomorrow when you are building the wall'.

Perez ended his sponsorship deal with the company immediately, but Hawkers responded last week by taking out a full page advert in a Mexican newspaper to apologise.

It also announced that it was planning to contribute around $25,000 (USD) to a new 'Dear Sergio x Hawkers Foundation' for poor children.

But despite Hawkers' most recent plans, Perez said his mind is made up about not continuing with the company.

When asked if the charity plans had made him change his mind, he said: "No, I didn't change it.

"I have new sunglasses. My relationship finished with them so, yeah, I don't have any more sunglasses sponsor."

Perez said that he had not seen the newspaper advert, but was not impressed by the fact Hawkers announced it plans without consulting him.

"No, I didn't find it," he said. "I think if they want to help in the auction or something, it's up to them. I already have my foundation, I already do a lot for charity and it will be good for them to do so.

"But they also didn't contact me directly. They did it all through social media, which I didn't find good at the moment. But it's all over now. If they want to help, they should help without me."
