On the world's unique existing test track, the Bar Honda (Enrico Bernoldi/Takuma Sato/Jenson Button), Jordan Toyota (N. Karthikeyan/Tiago Monteiro), McLaren Mercedes (Alex Wurz/Pedro de La Rosa), Panasonic Toyota Racing (Olivier Panis/Ricardo Zonta), Renault F1 Team (Franck Montagny/Giancarlo Fisichella) and Williams BMW (Antonio Pizzonia/Nick Heidfeld) have completed more than 11,000 kilometres of intensive tests over 3 days.
This week, they concentrated on the 3,818km '3E sc' track solution (one of the 112 track solutions currently at their disposal at the Paul Ricard HTTT) in order to prepare the 2005 season coming European Grands Prix: Imola in Italy, on April 24th and Barcelona in Spain on May 8th.
Thanks to its unique structure, more than anywhere else in the world, the teams can efficiently use their testing days to work on the development of their single-seaters. Indeed, the new run offs in asphalt created by Philippe GURDJIAN on this track, is a significant advantage in terms of sparing time thanks to the reactivity and efficiency of the Rescue Teams.
The 6 teams and 12 cars have been testing over 7h30 out of the 8 hours of the daily track opening time. On other tracks, teams are often compelled to wait in their garage until the stopped cars have been removed from the track and depending on the type of incident, these teams might even have to wait from 15 to 45 min until the track has been completely cleaned...On the Paul Ricard HTTT, these same teams would not wait more than 10 min.
As an alternative to yesterday's track solution, the teams running today have been given the opportunity to discover the 3.524km's brand new 3Eb-sc track solution using the new corner in the "Double Droite du Beausset" named "le Petit Beausset" (see the attached track design).
In the end, the teams will have driven more than 11,000km with a spectacular 2,557km over 2 days only for Bar-Honda team, among which 1.206km for Takuma Sato, who set moreover the absolute best lap time on the 3E sc track solution.
All the teams have taken part to the tests on Wednesday and Thursday and while most of them decided to save one test day, Jordan Toyota and McLaren Mercedes remained the third day as well so as to proceed with their development tests.
These teams took advantage of the rain around noon, to undertake tyre testing and cumulate over 860km on the new 3Eb sc track solution.
