Olivier Panis is taking a cautious approach to the speeds shown by Toyota in winter testing recently, believing the team shouldn't be distracted by testing times. Panis was fastest at Barcelona recently in the TF103 and after running the interim TF102B he remarked that the new car was a big step forward. However, Toyota is still a new team and needs more experience in races.

"It looks pretty good for a new team, but the last thing I want is the team to be distracted by the apparent speed of the car," Panis told Autosport. "There is a lot of work to be done and only in Melbourne will we know exactly where we are."

"It is a good chassis, good engine and the tyres are good - but this year there will be a lot less time to set-up the cars and there is a lot involved in strategy for qualifying and the race. In all these things experience counts."

Toyota has been testing at Imola and Jerez this week in its final preparations for the Australian Grand Prix. At Jerez yesterday Panis only managed 25 laps due to poor weather conditions but set the fastest time today. The team completes its winter testing programme at Jerez tomorrow where Cristiano da Matta will take over from Panis.
