The highly anticipated prequel to the Ocean's franchise is set to have a Formula 1 link.

Speaking during a Warner Bros. showcase at CinemaCon, Margot Robbie, who will star in the film alongside Bradley Cooper, explained that the heist movie will be set around the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” she said. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

In addition to starring in the film, Cooper will write and direct the prequel. While the film is yet to be titled, it is expected to be released in June 2027.

There is not much more information on the production at this stage, but excitement is already building among fans. One fan commented on Reddit, "Would be funny if they decide to repeat the diamond sponsorship from 2004," referring to the promotional stunt for Ocean's Twelve at the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix.

Jaguar Racing, which later became Red Bull, agreed a partnership with Steinmetz to embed two huge diamonds into the nose cones of their F1 cars, driven by Mark Webber and Christian Klien. Each diamond was valued at approximately £200,000 at the time.

Klein crashed into the barriers on the opening lap of the race. His wrecked car was lifted by crane and left by the side of the track until the race concluded. When the Jaguar mechanics were able to recover the car, the diamond was missing.

"This could be SO good," another fan posted on X, while someone else wrote: "Margot Robbie + Bradley Cooper in an Ocean’s prequel?? Set in Monaco ‘62? This already feels iconic."

Other more sceptical movie buffs were left wondering what the purpose of the new film would be. "Danny Ocean‘s parents isn’t that a bit of a stretch since when did the last Ocean's movie even come out like 10 years ago at least?" one wrote, and someone else also posted: "Nobody asked for this."
