According to Jos Verstappen's management, they and the Dutchman's sponsor Trust had given Jordan a deadline of 5pm today to make up its mind whether it wants him or not. Verstappen has been linked with a Jordan drive for some time now and has visited the team headquarters at Silverstone, but Jordan is still dragging its heels in deciding its driver line up.

Now the deadline has been and gone, Trust claims that Jordan has agreed to take on Verstappen for 2004, but a contract has not yet been signed. Reportedly a verbal agreement has decided the terms and a formal contract will be announced shortly.

Jordan, however, has apparently ignored the deadline and has not confirmed anything or issued any statement regarding its 2004 drivers. "There are no plans for any announcements tonight other than a test report," said a team spokesperson, according to the BBC. "And it is not Jordan policy to comment on possible drivers while any negotiations are taking place."

After ending a week's testing at Barcelona today, the team's next test session is at Silverstone early in February. At Barcelona Jordan tried out Timo Glock and Bas Leinders -- who both crashed -- and Nick Heidfeld, who is one of the drivers tipped for the other race seat.

Should the deal between Verstappen and Jordan be confirmed, presumably the Dutchman will be behind the wheel at Silverstone. However, speculation has it that Verstappen has pushed Jordan too far by setting a deadline and it could backfire on him. As usual, we'll just have to wait and see.
