New Honda engine a 'good' step for McLaren

Honda's F1 chief Yasuhisa Arai says McLaren is happy with the development direction the Japanese manufacturer has taken.

The Japanese manufacturer introduced an upgraded engine in the previous race in Russia, the updated power unit receiving praise by McLaren boss Eric Boullier.

Arai has confirmed the team is pleased with how things have progressed on the development side.

The Honda chief also revealed McLaren will have an updated aero package for this weekend's Unites States Grand Prix at Austin.

"Our goal is to gather more data throughout the remaining races, especially from our new ICE introduced in Sochi two weeks ago," said Arai in a team preview.

"The team has confirmed that the development direction is good, so we will now work on fine tuning it for the remaining four races.

"It will be interesting to see how this will work together with the updated aero package this weekend."

McLaren finished in the points with both cars at Sochi, before Fernando Alonso lost 10th place due to a penalty.

Teammate Jenson Button wound up ninth.
