Codemasters has announced F1 2017, the Official Formula 1 game, will be released in August and classic machines will be included along with a new 'Championships' game mode.

The 12 legendary F1 cars include the Williams FW14B in which Nigel Mansell won the 1992 Championship and the Ferrari F2002 made famous by Michael Schumacher.

The last Official F1 game to include classic machines was the 2013 iteration. This is the first game to be released under the new Liberty Media ownership.

The dominant 1988 McLaren MP4/4 will be a paid add-on or a pre-order bonus for those who want to drive Ayrton Senna's championship-winning car early.

The classic cars will be available to race in Career Mode, while a new addition, 'Championships', is set to make a debut - the details yet to be specified by Codemasters.

The developer also promises a deeper career, multiplayer enhancements and a release on August 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

“After an extremely successful year with the highly acclaimed F1 2016, we are delighted to be announcing F1 2017 and re-introducing classic F1 cars back to the series.

“Classics were incredibly well received when we included them in F1 2013, and in F1 2017 they are back and better than ever.

"With so many great cars to choose from, it was hard to decide on the final twelve, but we are delighted with our selection of some of the most successful and iconic fan favourites from the past 30 year," said Paul Jeal, Game Director at Codemasters.
