Mild Seven Renault F1 Team attracts 100,000 to Moscow show!
Mild Seven Renault F1 Team drivers Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella yesterday demonstrated the unique spectacle of Formula 1 in the heart of the Russian capital. Crowds estimated at more than 100,000 people gathered beneath the walls of the Kremlin to see the leaders of the 2005 World Championship in action.
The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team Grand Prix in Moscow began on the Moskva river, with an aquabike display by the Russian champion, before attention turned to the track. The legendary rally driver Jean Ragnotti wowed the crowds with the Megane Trophy and Clio RS, before the F1 drivers took to the track to race specially-prepared Megane Trophy cars to entertain the spectators.
The afternoon ended with the main event: the F1 demonstration. The crowds -- which had been gathering since early morning -- thrilled to the noise of the V10 engine as Fernando and Giancarlo completed five laps each of the city-centre circuit in last year's race-winning R24, demonstrating the noise and spectacle of Formula 1 to amazed Muscovites.
Fernando Alonso was delighted with the spectacle: "I loved coming back to Moscow -- it is a great city, and it was amazing to see so many people along the side of the circuit. The people here have an amazing passion for Formula One, and this was a mega show for them!"
Giancarlo Fisichella was equally impressed by his first visit to the city: "This was my first time in Moscow, and I was so impressed by it. We saw Red Square, and it was quite a unique way to discover the Kremlin -- from a Formula 1 car! I hope we will be coming back here soon."
The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team Grand Prix in Moscow was the second large Formula 1 show in Russia. The first, in October 2003, was also held by Mild Seven Renault F1 Team at Vorobjevy Gory near Moscow State University and attracted more than 50 000 people. So far, the Mild Seven Renault F1 Team has been the first and only F1 team to demonstrate a real F1 car in Russia.
