Juan Pablo Montoya may be moving on to McLaren in 2005 but for next year he will be fighting hard for Williams. McLaren made the announcement that Montoya was joining the team very early, which led to speculation that the Colombian could even leave Williams before next season. But Montoya is focused on the Grove squad for 2004.

"I've had a great time in my three years so far at Williams," he said at a BMW event in Austria. "No matter what the circumstances, I'm here to win. If I have the chance, I will do it." He dismissed speculation that Williams would not give him its full support in 2004. "They are happy about my openness and they're behind me. I'm behind them."

Montoya is happy with his performance in 2003 and that of Williams, which had a rocky start to the season. By the Autumn, however, the team was leading the constructors' championship. Unfortunately for Montoya his title challenge came to halt at Indianapolis, but in general it was a good year.

"At the beginning of the season we never thought about winning the title," he said. "So you have to say that we have achieved a massive improvement over the course of the season. My goal for a season is usually to be better than the year before, and I managed to do so."

For next season, the 2004 BMW P84 engine is expected to consolidate and improve upon the performance of its 2003 predecessor and Montoya thinks it will give Williams the edge. "BMW has done a great job and I think we will be enjoying a good engine advantage next year," he commented.
