IMOLA TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL MINARDI DAY CELEBRATION
For virtually all Formula One teams, the 2002 season concluded in Suzuka, Japan, last Sunday, but not for Minardi. The Faenza squad aims to celebrate its hard-won, ninth-place finish in this year's World Constructors' Championship with an all-action Minardi Day, to be staged this year at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola, Italy, on Sunday, October 27.
The second annual Minardi Day will feature four of the team's unique, two-seater Formula One cars, as well as a European Minardi PS01 Formula One chassis, all of which will take to the track at various times during the day. Fifty lucky passengers, including sponsor representatives, VIP guests, and members of the media, will have the chance to experience the thrill of Formula One performance around the 4.927-km circuit that is home to the San Marino Grand Prix, traditionally the opening event of the European section of the Grand Prix season.
Provisionally down to handle the high-speed "chauffeur" duties at this year's event are KL Minardi Formula One driver, Alex Yoong, and F3000 frontrunner, Giorgio Pantano, as well as the team's Formula One testers, Matteo Bobbi, David Saelens, and Christijan Albers. In addition, Minardi boss, Paul Stoddart, can be relied upon to provide a spectacular performance at the wheel of one his F1x2 cars, while Russian driver, Sergey Zlobin, will carry out a series of demonstration runs in the Minardi PS01.
"The 2002 season hasn't been the easiest of years for the Minardi team, but there is nonetheless much to celebrate, including those two memorable World Championship points Mark Webber scored in Australia and our ninth place finish in the World Constructors' Championship," says Paul Stoddart. "Minardi Day allows us to thank our partners, fans and the media for their support this season, as well as to celebrate the team's accomplishments in 2002. Minardi is a team which, above all, loves the sport of motor racing, and this event is a fitting way in which to demonstrate that fact, while bringing the season to a close."
