Gabriele Rumi, the technical director of Minardi, has admitted that the Italian team will be switching to the Supertec engines for the 2001 Formula One season.

With Ford focusing on the Jaguar engines and declining to supply any teams with customer engines next season, Minardi's options became severely limited.

"The engine supply contract hasn't been finalized, but it will be Supertec," said Rumi in an interview with Autosport. "This is our only option, but it is a good engine, and further advanced than the one we have at the moment."

It is unclear whether the Supertec engine will be badged "Fondmetal V10" like the current Ford engine, or whether it will carry the Supertec name.
