Mick Schumacher details Cadillac F1 talks: "Very positive so far"

Mick Schumacher is in discussions with the Cadillac F1 team for a return in 2026

Mick Schumacher, Reserve Driver, Mercedes-AMG F1 Team

Mick Schumacher has claimed that his discussions with the Cadillac Formula 1 team have been "very positive so far".

The German driver parted ways with Haas at the end of the 2022 season, which brought his two-year stint with the American outfit to an end. After missing out on a full-time F1 seat for 2023, Schumacher signed with Mercedes as a reserve driver and began his World Endurance Championship career with Alpine in 2024.

Although Schumacher has enjoyed some success in WEC, he has remained adamant in his hopes of returning to F1.

Cadillac is joining the championship as the 11th team in 2026 and has yet to announce the highly anticipated driver line-up. Various names have been linked to the team, which is led by team principal Graeme Lowdon, including Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas, former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez and Schumacher.

"Yes, of course, discussions are ongoing," Schumacher explained to the Brazilian edition of Motorsport.com. "The communication has been very positive so far."

He added, "And they've already hired a fantastic number of people for it. It's an honour to be part of it, to negotiate with them, and a great position to be in."

Lowdon discussed the driver negotiations during an appearance on the High Performance podcast

"Everyone wants to prove something else again," Lowdon explained when asked whether drivers such as Schumacher and Bottas still have something to prove.

"I never look at that as the biggest motivator. Our team is not there as a vehicle for someone to prove a point. Our team is there to provide a position on the pitch, if you like. For someone to prove what they can do for sure, but it's not the vehicle to show the world, prove a point or whatever.

"The driver is there to do the best that they possibly can for their team, and they should be motivated for the team around them as well. So, I'm less keen on people who kind of want to prove a personal point."
