With two days' hard work at Barcelona on Monday and Tuesday, which involved more than 100 laps, Allan McNish this week began the detailed process of learning about the R23 and his new team. The Scotsman can't wait to get back behind the wheel!

"It was a bit by accident that I had my first run in the R202 a few days ago," he explains. "Jarno was ill and straight away, the Team asked me to stand in. We did a seat fitting very quickly, but I wasn't comfortable inside the car: for example, the pedals were a bit further away than I like. I also managed to run ten laps during the launch at Paul Ricard but there as well, everything was very rushed.

"Things started properly this week at Barcelona. I ran in a hybrid R23 for two days, and managed to complete over 100 laps. From my point of view, the key thing was to learn about the way in which the team works, and to get my first impressions of the new car. I think things look promising: there's plenty of grip, and no vices in the handling. What's more, the times weren't bad either. Jarno was very helpful in terms of getting my bearings, and I'm grateful for that. The atmosphere inside the team is excellent, and everything is starting to fall into place: motivation is very high."

Allan will be back in action in the R23 next week in Valencia.
