McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have detailed what changes they made to prepare to fight for their first drivers' championship title.

The duo went into the 2025 Formula 1 season on the back of the team securing the 2024 constructors' championship, with hopes of fighting for the drivers' title.

While Piastri explained that he approached the season the same as he had previously, Norris noted slight adaptations to his preparations.

"For the most part, I would say it’s been the same," Piastri explained during a McLaren family day event.

"Going into the season, if you look at the trajectory we’d taken and the progress we’ve made since the start of 2024, we felt that if we could start this season how we ended last season, then there was a good chance of us fighting for two championships, not just the constructors’.

"In that scenario, you know that there is going to be a lot to play for, so that aspect is different, but the way you go about trying to achieve your goals is the same – you just try and do the best that you can."

Norris added: "Every year, you learn more and more, and you will always adapt your approach ever so slightly based on what you take away from your experiences.

"But at the end of the day, it’s pretty simple: you go into every weekend trying to get as many points as you can. What’s good for you, is normally good for the team, and what’s good for the team, is good for you – that makes it quite simple for us."

Heading into the final four rounds of the 2025 season, Norris leads the drivers' championship with just one point separating him from his Australian team-mate. A late surge from Red Bull's Max Verstappen leaves the Dutchman 36 points behind Norris and very much still a threat to the McLaren duo.

The Woking outfit secured the 2025 constructors' title at the Singapore Grand Prix.
