Spanish racing driver Maria de Villota has today signed with 2MB Sports Management; joining Formula 1 test driver Gary Paffett and Indy car driver Mike Conway, as part of the company¹s select group of drivers.
Maria has a combination of single seater, sports car and touring car experience; including competing in the World Touring Car Championship and three years racing in the Superleague Formula Championship.
Following a successful Formula 1 test last August at Paul Ricard, Maria is looking tofollow in her father¹s footsteps and is now targeting a seat in Formula 1.
"It has been a long standing ambition of mine to race in Formula 1 and I believe that working with Mark Blundell at 2MB Sports Management will give me the best chance of achieving this goal. As someone who raced inFormula 1 and Indy Car, and who still races competitively today, Mark knows how I feel as a driver and understands the industry. For me, these are two vital aspects of a being a manager and I am very pleased to have Mark looking after my racing career;" commented Maria de Villota.
I feel the timing is right for a woman to be in Formula 1
"I have been watching Maria and her career and its development for a while and I feel the timing is right for a woman to be in Formula 1, and her recent Formula 1 test was very impressive. There are women drivers in top level championships such as Nascar and Indy Car and in Maria I believe she has the ability, desire and commitment to become a Formula 1 driver.
