The FIA have released a statement saying that cars number 3 & 4 (Ferrari's of Schumacher and Irvine) do not comply with the regulations in scrutineering. The deflector panels of the Ferrari's are reported to not comply with the regulations.

The state of the Ferrari tyres at the end of the race was also commented on by Ron Dennis in an interview on ITV.

If the disqualification from the results is upheld, the championship table changes somewhat:

In the constructors championship, McLaren would lead Ferrari 120 to 102 points, and therefore would be constructors champions.

In the drivers championship, Hakkinen would lead Irvine 72 points to 60, and therefore would be drivers champion, with Frentzen still in with a shot for second in the championship.
