Kevin Magnussen suffered a cut ankle but no serious injuries from his race-stopping crash at the Belgian Grand Prix, his Renault team has said.

The Dane lost control of his car at Raidillon on Lap 7, spinning around and smashing heavily into the barriers at the top of the hill.

Although he was able to get out of his car unaided, he was seen hobbling as he was escorted to the medical car.

Following a check at the Spa medical centre, it was decided that Magnussen should be taken to a nearby hospital for further checks to an injury he suffered to his leg.

Renault tweeted: “He has a small cut to the left ankle and has been escorted to a nearby hospital for further routine checks.”

Magnussen's accident caused the red flag to be brought out so barriers could be repaired at the scene of his crash.
