October 7, 1996 - Former world driving champion Jackie Stewart signed Danish driver Jan Magnussen for his new Formula One team today. Magnussen, 23, has agreed to a four-year contract with the Ford-powered Stewart Grand Prix team which will make its debut in the 1997 season opener in Australia next March. "I am absolutely thrilled to have a seat in Formula One for next season; my dream come true," Magnussen said. "It is a real pleasure to be going back to the Stewart family whose experience and professionalism I trust and respect." The Stewart team will announce the second driver at a later date.
