Magnussen crash brings Belgian GP to a halt

The Belgian Grand Prix was red flagged after nine laps on Sunday following a dramatic crash for Kevin Magnussen in the Renault.

Magnussen lost control of his car at Raidillon on lap six when he was running in eighth spot right behind his teammate Jolyon Palmer.

Although he tried to correct the moment, in the end his car spun around and he smashed heavily into the tyre barriers at the top of the hill.

As well as substantial damage that ripped three wheels off his car, Magnussen's headrest came off in the impact.

The Dane was able to get out of his car unaided, although was seen hobbling as he was taken to the medical car.

Although the Safety Car was originally brought out, the damage to the barriers was so extensive that it was decided that the race needed to be stopped so work could be done.

The red flag was brought out on lap nine – and means that drivers will be allowed to change tyres for the restart.

Nico Rosberg led the race from the first corner, and helped from an opening corner incident between Max Verstappen, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.
