Madrid will host the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix in September, and construction has begun on the pit building.

The 2026 Spanish Grand Prix will be set around the IFEMA MADRID exhibition centre and the north-east of the city, on a 5.4km circuit with 22 corners.

The pit building will house the pit garages, FIA technical areas and the VIP Paddock Club. In addition to the pit building, the first layer of asphalt is now being laid around the circuit.

"MADRING is accelerating as construction on the Pit Building, one of the key parts of the circuit, begins. Located at IFEMA, this building will house the teams' pits, FIA technical areas, and the exclusive VIP Paddock Club," the organisers shared on social media.

"At the same time, work on the track continues with the first layer of asphalt being laid at various points around the circuit. MADRING is taking shape ahead of 2026."

Madrid-born driver Carlos Sainz serves as an ambassador for the Madring circuit.

“Madrid is the best city in the world and the place I miss the most when I’m away.

"It was an easy decision to become Madring’s ambassador because I truly believe we can build the best circuit in the world. I have complete faith in Madrid — it’s unbeatable. And we’re going for it.”

The Williams driver had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the FW45 on part of the track in June 2025, which he described as a "dream come true."

"It’s a dream come true for me to be back in Madrid, driving the FW45 around the streets I grew up in,” he said.

"I’ll never forget driving this car in front of a crowd of 80,000 people from all over the world. It’s been a super emotional day, but it’s just a taste of what will be coming in 2026. Next year will be huge for Madrid as it becomes part of F1 and I can't wait!"
