Lewis Hamilton warns against rushing to film ‘F1’ movie sequel

Lewis Hamilton hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a sequel to F1: The Movie, but warned that rushing into it would be "the worst thing [they] could probably do."

The Brad Pitt-led flick is already Apple’s biggest box office hit after netting $144 million globally over opening weekend. Hamilton co-produced the film and served as a consultant to director Joe Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who shot on-location at grands prix throughout 2023 and 2024.

"We literally just finished it, so I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel," Hamilton told reporters ahead of the British Grand Prix.

"It's been four years in the making. It was a lot of work, particularly for Joe [Kosinski]. It's time away from your family, it's time away from your kids, and also you need this to just simmer for a while, you know. Like, let's enjoy it.”

The seven-time world champion theorised that rushing out a sequel to the hit movie could actually be “the worst thing” for the team to do.

"Most sequels are way worse, so we don't need to rush it,” he quipped. “I think if we do a sequel, I would say let's really, really take our time in getting it even better."

Hamilton also revealed he’s still bringing F1 knowledge to Hollywood, months after filming wrapped.

“I don’t know if they’ve ever done this before, but I've asked them to do a debrief,” he said, referring to the post-race meetings that take place within F1 teams.

"Let's review what we did, what we could have done better. I don't know if they ever do that in the movie business, but it's something obviously I've learned from here.”

The Ferrari driver was heavily involved in the movie’s development and script writing process, serving as a liaison between the filmmakers and the paddock.

Several F1 drivers and team principals made cameos in the flick, notably Zak Brown, Toto Wolff and Fred Vasseur.
