Story behind the photo: Hamilton does the ‘Lightning Bolt’
Oct 25, 2017, 3:48 PM

After every grand prix, ace photographer Mark Sutton of Sutton Images gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to cover Formula 1 from behind the lens.

The United States Grand Prix started like a Super Bowl – with fireworks, smoke and all the drivers being announced to cheers and screams from the patriotic crowd. The fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt, posed and waved the cars away from the grid, and then we witnessed some great battles.

After Lewis Hamilton took victory, the celebrations began with President Bill Clinton presenting the winner’s trophy and Bolt interviewing the drivers. It was an epic podium, which never stopped for over 15 minutes, as my finger fired away on my Nikon D5 and Nikkor 200-400mm lens

And then the moment happened where Lewis asked Usain: “Let’s do the pose” and this photo sums up an amazing podium with two of the quickest men on earth.

Tech specs:

Camera body - Nikon D5

Lens - Nikkor 200-400mm F4

Shutter speed - 1/1000th of a second

Aperture - F6.3

ISO - 400
