Lewis Hamilton has said “there is no limit” to what he can still achieve in Formula 1 after winning his third world title at the US Grand Prix last weekend.

The 30-year-old is now Britain’s most successful F1 driver, as he ties with Sir Jackie Stewart on three championships, but he has won 43 races compared to the Scot’s 27.

Hamilton has also equalled the number of championships won by his F1 hero, Ayrton Senna, but says he wants to enjoy more success before his career is over.

He said: “The sky is not the limit, I think there is no limit to what I can go out and achieve. I’ve hopefully got a few years to go so I’m going to go all out and all in and see what I can do.”

Hamilton has started 164 races in his eight-year F1 career so far and has won two more races than Senna did before he was killed in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. After surpassing his idol’s record, Britain’s only back-to-back world champion wants to continue winning.

He said: “Me and my family have achieved this and it’s unbelievable to think that as a kid I set my sights on doing something similar to Ayrton [and] that I’m sitting here 22 years later having done that.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and [an] incredibly empowering feeling and now I feel there are so many things and opportunities that are lying ahead. I’m going to try and continue daring to be great. I want to be great in all the things I do.”

So far in 2015, Hamilton has won ten races, chalked up 11 pole positions and he currently has 327 points, 36 more than he did at the same stage in 2014. If he wins the remaining three races of the season, Hamilton will beat Sebastian Vettel’s record of most points scored in a single season, which the German driver set in 2013 when he collected 397 points.

Ferrari has made a big improvement in 2015 and Hamilton explained that he would like to see more races like the action-packed event in Austin and would welcome a challenge from Vettel and the Scuderia in the future.

He said: “I live for races like [Sunday]. Those races are what I’ve been waiting for and we get a spark of it every now and then, but growing up that’s where my strength was in races like that [by] staying on it and never giving up. I can’t wait for more races with Nico, but also I’d love to see Ferrari challenging us because I think that would be great for the fans to see.

When asked to compare his three world titles, Hamilton described how they were all special in their own individual ways, but cited the pleasure he is currently enjoying in his life away from F1 as the reason why he is revelling in his 2015 crown.

He said: “[The three championships] are so unique in their own ways. The great thing about winning is that it’s always new, it’s always fresh, somehow. I’ve been racing for 22 years but it feels amazing to have won the championship [again]. It honestly is the greatest feeling, [but] they all feel different in their own way.

“I’ve been really privileged to work with great people along the way, but I love driving the car [and] I’m in such a happy place in my personal life that I’m enjoying driving and doing my job more than ever.”
