Las Vegas F1 fans split over Lando Norris and Max Verstappen for driver of the year

Content creator Daniel Mac arrived at the paddock of the Las Vegas Grand Prix with one question for fans of the championship: Who is your driver of the year? And it's no surprise that answers were split between Oscar Piastri, Max Verstappen, and Lando Norris.

One name popped up more than others, but even with just three races left at the time of writing, the jury is still out among fans.

"Lando," one fan said before adding their reasoning: "Got the best car."

Another supporter pointed to the other side of the McLaren garage, adding: "It's gonna be Oscar. I don't know. He's just... he's the young gun. He's the kid. He's got it."

Even a fan wearing team colours couldn't look past the Briton.

"I might be wearing Aston Martin, but I still think it's gonna be Lando Norris," they said before being asked to justify their choice.

"Just the points. He's got the balls, too, in my opinion."

The reigning champion still commands plenty of respect from fans, especially after his sudden return to form in the latter part of this season.

"In my opinion, I got Max Verstappen. To me, he drives more confident and he is more competitive to me.”

“Max Verstappen, obviously," another added. "Yeah, obviously like he has proven himself time and time again that he's always gonna be that. He doesn't ever give up.”

Norris came out on top, mirroring his impressive qualifying performance on a wet Las Vegas Strip.

“He kind of took it away from Piastri," another fan said on why they backed Norris. "Yeah. I would say like, when Piastri was like pulling away with the season, he kind of came back.”

With fan voting for the Autosport Awards now officially open, you have the opportunity to vote for your breakout star of the year. But in Las Vegas, at least, the debate is already in full swing as the drivers ready themselves for a race under the neon lights of Sin City as both Piastri and Verstappen try to reel in the standings-leading Norris.
